Elise Stefanik, chair of the House Republican Conference, and James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee, say that the White House has released a false transcript of President Biden's remarks in which he appears to have referred to supporters of former President Trump as "garbage." They also warn that the revision may be in violation of the Presidential Records Act.

"The American people will choose the 2024 presidential candidate in less than a week. They will pick between the following candidates: Vice President Kamala Harris and President Donald Trump. "President Biden has chosen not to pursue a second term in office, marred by unpopular policies, scandal, and apparent cognitive decline," they wrote.

"President Biden, on the other hand, has continued to play a prominent role in the campaign of Vice President Harris and is in fact the most powerful mouthpiece for the policies and views of the Biden-Harris Administration that Ms. Harris presumably seeks to continue under a hypothetical Harris-Walz Administration."

"Americans were rightfully insulted, then, when President Biden, seeking to boost Ms. Harris’ presidential campaign, referred to an enormous swath of the country as "floating... garbage," during the HARRIS CAMPAIGN EVENT AS VP PROMISES UNITY AT ELLIPSE RALLY," according to Stefanik and Comer.

According to what they wrote, "President Biden's vindictive words were unsurprising, given his previous statements regarding people who choose not to vote for his preferred candidate." The White House's actions after he said them were also unsurprising."

According to Stefanik and Comer, the White House attempted to "change them (despite they were recorded on video) by releasing a false transcript of his remarks" rather than "apologizing or clarifying President Biden’s words."

They wrote, "The move is not only craven, but it also appears to violate federal law, including the Presidential Records Act of 1978." The words of the United States President cannot be altered by White House staff to be more politically correct.

After President Biden spoke with Voto Latino, one of the largest Latino voter and civic outreach organizations in the United States, on a Zoom call on Tuesday, the letter follows. When comedian Tony Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garb age" on Sunday during a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden, Biden was questioned regarding the statement.

"The only garbage I see floating out there are his supporters," Biden replied.

The White House has since rejected that Biden referred to Best allies as "trash" and guaranteed the remark was taken inappropriately.

On Wednesday, the White House made available a transcript of Biden's remarks.

"The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporter's — his — his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it's un-American," reads the official transcript from the White House.

"The president referred to the hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally as ‘garbage,'" stated White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates, in an effort to clarify Biden's remarks.

After the president called supporters "garbage," Trump appeals to supporters to "forgive" Biden in a show of unity. The president also tweeted in the same vein.

Biden wrote to X, "Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by a Trump supporter at his rally at Madison Square Garden as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it." "His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable," Biden wrote. I only meant to say that. The remarks made at that rally do not accurately reflect our nation's character."

Now, Vice President Kamala Harris is attempting to distance herself from the remarks. However, she is also defending the president by stating that he "clarified his comments."

Harris stated, "But let me be clear, I vehemently disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for."

"Who we are as a nation and whether we are going to be a nation of people who attempt to unify and break through this era of divisiveness, or are we going to be a nation of people who have a president stewing in the Oval Office over his enemies list," Harris reiterated on Wednesday, referring to her speech from the Ellipse near the White House on Tuesday.

"Given you garbage treatment": In Battleground North Carolina, Trump uses Biden's criticism as a rallying cry. "You heard my speech last night and continuously throughout my career," Harris said. As President of the United States, I will be a president for all Americans, regardless of whether you vote for me or not. I believe that the work that I do is about representing all the people, regardless of whether they support me.

"Though President Biden’s relevance continues to diminish, his words continue to matter, even as they become increasingly divisive and erratic," Stefanik and Comer wrote in their letter to White House counsel.

"Retain and preserve all documents and internal communications regarding President Biden’s statement and the release of the inaccurate transcript," Stefanik and Comer demanded of the White House.

They stated in their writing, "We also demand that the White House issue a corrected transcript with the accurate words."

Trump stated that Biden and Harris have "treated our whole country like garbage" at a rally on Wednesday in North Carolina.

"To Joe and Kamala, my response is very straightforward: Trump declared, "You can't lead America if you don't love Americans." Additionally, you cannot be president if you despise the American people, and there is a great deal of hatred in the country."
