US President Joe Biden spoke with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Monday, emphasizing Jordan's pivotal role in promoting regional stability and reducing tensions in the Middle East, particularly after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria.
According to the White House, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to a Syrian-led political transition under the framework of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254. This resolution, adopted in 2015, outlines a roadmap for peace in Syria through UN-mediated talks between the Syrian government and opposition forces.
Biden also addressed the situation in eastern Syria, highlighting the US’s continued support for the D-ISIS mission, including recent strikes targeting ISIS fighters and leaders. He stressed the US’s backing of Jordan’s efforts to maintain stability in the region.
The leaders also discussed the urgent need for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza, along with enhancing humanitarian aid for its people. Both agreed to stay in regular contact through direct communication and their respective teams.
