"VP Harris Distances Herself from Biden's ‘Garbage’ Comment on Trump Supporters Amid Election Tensions"

Vice President Kamala Harris distanced herself on Wednesday from remarks made by President Joe Biden that seemed to label Donald Trump’s supporters as “garbage,” causing a political stir just a week before Election Day.

When asked, Harris voiced strong disagreement with the idea of criticizing voters based on their political choices. She explained that although she spoke with Biden Tuesday night, his controversial comments were not discussed. “He clarified his remarks, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” Harris said, emphasizing her commitment to representing all Americans.

The incident began when Biden, while criticizing a Trump rally in Madison Square Garden, referenced offensive language about Puerto Rico from one of Trump’s supporters, labeling it “garbage.” Biden continued, saying, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” a comment that quickly became a point of contention.

In response, Biden later clarified his intention, tweeting that he had meant to call out the rhetoric of a specific Trump supporter rather than all supporters. The White House echoed this, stating that Biden's remark was aimed at hateful language from the rally.

Harris’ campaign, however, faced immediate questions, with Democrats privately concerned about Biden’s impact on the final stretch of the campaign. Harris’ team emphasized that she respects all voters, regardless of political affiliation, a message echoed by her vice-presidential running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. He pointed to the divisive language often used by Trump as the real issue and reiterated that Harris’ campaign seeks to unify the nation.

“We want everyone as part of this. It’s Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric that needs to end,” Walz said, urging voters to focus on Harris’ message of inclusivity and unity as she campaigns for the presidency.
